Anthracosis is the buildup of carbon in the body’s organs resulting from inhaling coal dust, smoke, or other air pollutants. It is usually asymptomatic but is the precursor to black lung disease. This slide shows the accumulation of dark pigment in a section of human lymph node. Stained with hematoxylin and eosin to show general structure and dark pigment.
