Description
Carolina Science Essential Labs™ for Middle School offer middle school teachers lab investigations that are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards* and that complement any NGSS-like middle school curriculum. Each Essential Labs investigation engages students as they learn about essential topics and can be completed in 1 to 2 class periods. All Essential Labs begin with an Overview, a Phenomenon, and an Essential Question to prepare students for a teacher-tested activity. Essential Labs activities offer flexibility and can be completed in any sequence.
Carolina Science Essential Labs™ for Middle School is also available as a custom program to use with any textbook or state standards. Call for information on lab program customization.
The Structure and Properties of Matter unit includes 3 Essential Labs investigations that can be completed in 3 to 5 class periods:
- Composition and Structure of Molecules: MS-PS1-1 Develop models to describe the atomic composition of simple molecules and extended structures.
- Origin and Properties of Synthetic and Natural Fibers: MS-PS1-3 Gather and make sense of information to describe that synthetic materials come from natural resources and impact society.
- Changes of State of Matter and Particle Motion: MS-PS1-4 Develop a model that predicts and describes changes in particle motion, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed.
Carolina Science Essential Labs™ for Middle School units are available as a 1-Use Kit or a 4-Use Kit. Each kit provides Teacher Notes, Student Worksheets, and materials not commonly found in classrooms.
