Trace Powder Evidence Inquiry Kit

Product Code: 699885

Description

Grades 6–12. For a class of 32. Acting as members of a medical diagnostic team, students examine trace powder evidence collected from a fictitious scene, make observations, and construct diagrams of prepared slides of known powder samples. They then prepare slides with evidence collected from the scene.

Students compare and contrast samples to make a supportable hypothesis regarding the type and source of the evidence. Students continue with an inquiry-based exercise, designing and conducting tests to determine other properties of the substance. The synthesis of their results with outside research either supports or refutes their hypothesis.

These activities are designed for a class working cooperatively in 8 groups of 3 or 4 students each.
