Description
Sepia ebony (se1eb1) chromosome 3 mutant Drosophila (fruit flies) demonstrate 2 autosomal recessive mutations. The sepia mutation causes eyes that change from brownish red to black with age; the ebony mutation causes the body to gradually turn black in adults.
These flies are recommended for investigating autosomal inheritance and are excellent for beginning Drosophila studies because of how easy they are to score. Note: It takes up to 2 weeks from the date of the vial for adults to develop. When culture arrives, remove cap but leave plug in place. Keep culture out of sunlight and maintain at 68–77°F (20–25° C).
