Description
The yellow Bar mutation can demonstrate recessive, dominant, and sex-linked characteristics in a single cross with a wild male. Yellow Bar (y1B1) chromosome 1 mutant Drosophila (fruit flies) demonstrate a recessive sex-linked mutation that causes yellow body, wing hairs, and veins, and a dominant sex-linked mutation that causes eyes to be small, narrow, and slit-like.
These flies are recommended for investigating sex-linked inheritance and are excellent for beginning Drosophila studies because of how easy they are to score. For a complete guide on maintaining and studying Drosophila, including how to culture, anesthetize, and score them, and the genetic notations, consider our Carolina® Drosophila Manual (item #452620).
Note: It takes up to 2 weeks from the date of the vial for adults to develop. When culture arrives, remove cap but leave plug in place. Keep culture out of sunlight and maintain at 68–77° F (20–25° C).
