Carolina® Chromatography of Drosophila Eye Pigments Kit (with voucher)

Product Code: 171955

Description

Intermediate—Easy to perform; requires some background knowledge.

This hands-on kit helps you teach your students about the properties of biochemical pathways, enzymes, and the relationship between genotype and phenotype. Your students gain experience working with 1 of the most prevalent model organisms, Drosophila melanogaster, while performing paper chromatography on the eye pigments of 5 different mutant strains. Some of the mutant eyes look very similar but produce vastly different chromatograms, and some of them look very different but produce very similar chromatograms. This makes it clear to students which eye pigments are missing, or are in excess, in each mutant strain.

Kit includes sufficient materials for 8 groups of up to 4 students, teacher’s manual with reproducible student guide, and a voucher to request the perishable materials later at your convenience. Contact us or return the voucher to request delivery of perishable materials.

Note: Please order at least 2 weeks in advance of desired ship date. Among the items needed but not supplied is a UV light source (such as our item #154683 UV Lamp, available separately).
