For a class of 32 students working in teams of 4. Losing flies has always been a problem when working with Drosophila, especially for the novice. Our Flightless Fruit Fly Kit solves this problem by using flightless strains that contain the miniature mutation. These flies have wings too small for sustained flight, making them easier to handle and study.
With the Flightless Fruit Fly Kit, students make crosses of sepia with wild-type red eyes (monohybrid cross), white with wild-type red eyes (sex-linked cross), and apterous with sepia (dihybrid cross).
