Grades 9-12. Give your students real hands-on science experiences whether they are on or off campus. Built on the successful Carolina Kits 3D® series, which supports the Next Generation Science Standards* and 3-dimensional instruction, Carolina Kits 3D® Flex goes one step further. While it provides blended learning experiences to help students make sense of phenomena and the world around them, the comprehensive, full-year program also ensures instructional continuity, whatever your scheduling model. Whether students are in class, socially distanced, or at home, they have all the supplies needed for engaged learning, enrichment, and success.
Carolina Kits 3D® Flex Biology Program Overview
The Carolina Kits 3D® Flex Biology program puts all materials needed by students during a year-long high school biology lab program into ONE transportable kit for EACH student. A matching teacher kit (item #187955, sold separately) includes all student materials PLUS digital resources—teacher and student guides and other resources that deliver instructional materials for hands-on investigations, digital teacher demonstrations, and digital student investigations. Teachers can provide authentic lab experiences even during uncertain scheduling interruptions such as severe health emergencies, severe weather, medical or health reasons, or changes in the structural integrity or safety of the classroom.
Carolina Kits 3D® Flex Biology is comprised of 3 types of investigations:
- Hands-on investigations that are safe to do at home and offer authentic lab experiences and skill-building opportunities. Wet labs plus manipulative activities offer students different learning modalities that appeal to visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile learners.
- Digital teacher demonstrations are high-quality videos that allow teachers to add their own commentary—as if they were in the classroom with their students. Students directly observe phenomena and are guided through the process of using evidence and prior knowledge to make sense of them.
- Digital student investigations are additional opportunities for students to collect authentic data, make observations, and apply sense-making for investigations that are difficult to conduct remotely. These videos offer multiple trials and experimental variables that require students to remotely collaborate in order to enhance and deepen their understanding.
Carolina Kits 3D® Flex Biology includes these 16 investigations:
- Homeostasis in Animals: Hands-on investigation, digital student investigation
- Modeling Kidney Function: Hands-on investigation
