Diablo Highway™: Fingerprint Analysis Lab Kit—Option A

Product Code: 212283

Description

Grades 7–12.

Students learn how to identify fingerprint characteristics in this lab. These include the differences between class characteristics (arches, loops, and whorls) and individual characteristics (bifurcation, enclosure, ridge ending, short ridge, delta, and ridge dot). Through this lab activity, students learn that fingerprints are unique; fingerprints do not change over the duration of an individual’s lifetime; and that fingerprints have patterns that enable them to be systematically identified. Students also learn how to use a microscope and their unaided eyes to identify these characteristics.

This activity includes all the tools teachers and students need to conduct the lab (except for microscope(s), not included). Based on details from the Diablo Highway™: Full Kit (item #212188) crime scene, this lab can also be used as a standalone activity.

The student’s guide includes:

  • A clearly written, graphically rich, easy-to-understand science lesson on fingerprint analysis
  • Easy-to-follow procedures for the lab activities
  • Answer tables that students record their results in and submit

The teacher’s guide includes:

  • Everything included in the student’s guide
  • Teacher tips on how to prepare for and conduct the lab
  • An answer key
