Description
Students develop applications using a zero-carbon fuel as they investigate clean energy using fuel cells and renewable hydrogen created with solar energy and water. Combines lessons on solar energy, hydrogen fuel cells, electrolysis, and basic electronics to encourage understanding of this real-world issue. May be used with the Energy Monitor (item #759251). Includes an instructional CD-ROM and complete curriculum on renewable energy; 1 AA battery and distilled water are needed but not supplied. Note: Use only distilled water with this item or damage may result.
Solar energy experiments include:
- Effect of heat on solar panels
- Effect of shade on solar panels
- Effect of tilt angle on solar panels
- Finding the solar panel’s maximum power point
Hydrogen experiments include:
- Electrolysis mode generating hydrogen and oxygen from water
- Fuel cell mode generating electricity from hydrogen and oxygen
- Determining the minimum voltage for water decomposition
- Polarization states for hydrogen fuel cells
