Description
Grades 9-12.
- Conduct soil tests to measure nitrogenous compounds in soil
- Compare the biomass of mature clover with Rhizobium to that of mature clover without Rhizobium
- Examine and compare root nodules of mature clover with Rhizobium to mature clover without Rhizobium
Students observe the nitrogen cycle at work by growing clover both with and without Rhizobium, a nitrogen-fixing bacterium. They will compare the biomass and nitrogen content of the soil to uninoculated clover to understand how nitrogenous compounds are cycled with through the aid of bacteria. Kit accommodates 30 students working in pairs and includes perishable material when kit is shipped.
