Description
The cinnabar brown (cn1bw1) chromosome 2 mutant Drosophila (fruit flies) have 2 autosomal recessive mutations, with gene interaction from pathways on the same chromosome that causes the trait of white eyes. The unique strain provides a great opportunity to teach gene interactions, as well as address the common misconception that one gene = one phenotype.
These flies are recommended for investigating autosomal inheritance and are excellent for beginning Drosophila studies because of how easy they are to score. For a complete guide on maintaining and studying Drosophila, including how to culture, anesthetize, and score them, and the genetic notations, consider our Carolina® Drosophila Manual (item #452620).
Note: It takes up to 2 weeks from the date of the vial for adults to develop. When culture arrives, remove cap but leave plug in place. Keep culture out of sunlight and maintain at 68–77° F (20–25° C).
