Description
Investigate the exciting world of nematodes! This unique kit, created by Genome Sciences Education Outreach at the University of Washington, contains a complete curriculum in which students compare 2 different nematode (Caenorhabditis elegans) strains and track their response, growth, and development to environments with 2 different salt concentrations. Give your students an opportunity to conduct an investigation in which they observe feedback mechanisms to help maintain homeostasis in a model organism. The curriculum module, developed for high school biology classes, consists of 5 lessons, a final assessment, teacher instructions, student handouts, and support materials. The lessons employ the 5E learning cycle model and involve students in the 3 dimensions of the Next Generation Science Standards®. Additional supplies such as Nematode Agar, Low Salt (item #173521); Nematode Agar, High Salt (item #173522); C. elegans cultures (items #173500 and #173501); and C. elegans feeder host (E. coli, item #155073) can be ordered separately. Kit includes enough materials for a class of 32 students working in groups of 4. Note: Kit includes perishable materials for immediate use.
