Description
Firearms, electronic equipment, and motor vehicles have identifying serial numbers or markings, and criminals often destroy this information so that ownership cannot be traced. As a result, serial number restoration has become an important part of forensic science. Designed by forensic analysts, this kit provides the most realistic experience for students, with 8 samples each of stainless steel and hot-rolled steel with the original numbers obliterated.
The kit’s PowerPoint® presentation on CD-ROM—with instructions, high-quality photographs and 2 video clips of serial number restoration, a laboratory exercise, and student worksheets—cuts down on teacher prep time. The kit materials (including reusable samples) equip 24 students working in pairs. Ferric chloride, cupric chloride, hydrochloric acid, and nitric acid are chemicals that are needed but not included.
The Serial Number Restoration Expansion Pack (item #212159) supplies 16 pieces of carbon steel so you can use the kit with larger classes, in multiple class periods, or to demonstrate a positive control.
