Description
The dissection BioKit® is a single-concept classroom unit that gives students a hands-on approach to biology and anatomy. Each kit contains materials for at least 30 students plus teacher’s manual with reproducible student guide and labeled diagrams, information regarding the specimen’s anatomy and physiology, standards met by the dissection, glossary, and resource list or digital resources to reinforce the activity.
Starfish Dissection BioKit® introduces students to the anatomy of an echinoderm. Kit includes 30 plain starfish, 30 self-locking storage bags, a teacher’s manual with blackline masters for reproducible student guides, and free 1-year access to digital resources that support 3-dimensional instruction.
Important Notice: The supply of dissectible starfish specimens is limited due to a decline in natural populations of starfish, which has been attributed to sea star wasting disease. This disease, thought to be caused by a virus, has decimated populations of starfish along the East and West Coasts of the US. Future availability is uncertain at this time, as population recovery of these keystone species is critical.
