Product Details
Preserved pig dissection is a hands-on, engaging way to teach mammalian anatomy. These specimens are ideal for students working in pairs or small groups, as they are larger than other common vertebrates, such as frogs and rats. Their size also makes locating internal structures easier for students.
During the pig dissection, students will:
- Learn vertebrate anatomy
- Relate structure and function
- Examine organs and organ systems
- Investigate similarities in pig and human anatomy
- Practice dissection skills
Product Features

Carosafe®
Carosafe® preservative and holding solution for biological specimens contains no formaldehyde and is not a tissue fixative. Most Carosafe® specimens were first preserved with a formalin solution and then washed before placement in Carosafe®. Specimens are held in Carosafe® prior to shipment, producing formalin-preserved specimens that, when dissected, minimize formaldehyde exposure.
Disclaimer
Carolina’s preserved pigs were not raised for the purpose of dissection; they are a byproduct of the pork industry. Most of the pigs were stillborn and would be discarded were they not reutilized for educational purposes.
