Inquiries in Science®: Uncovering the Atmosphere Kit

Product Code: 251421

Description

  • Calculate the percent of oxygen in the troposphere through the combustion of paraffin
  • Compare rates of heat absorption and emission of different substances
  • Help students meet the Next Generation Science Standards Performance Expectation HS-ESS2-2: Analyze geoscience data to make the claim that one change to Earth’s surface can create feedbacks that cause changes to other Earth systems

Grades 9–12. Students explore the importance of Earth’s atmosphere in sustaining life. Through experimentation, they discover the composition of the atmosphere, the development of frontal systems, and how the atmosphere regulates and circulates heat. Students compare how water and soil absorb and emit heat. Then they design their own experiment to examine the temperature effects of altering the energy radiation balance in a model atmospheric system. Kit includes enough materials for 30 students working in groups of 3.
