Description
Asterias. Greatly enlarged. Use this handcrafted, museum-quality model to study the intricate anatomy of the starfish. On this model, 3 of the 5 arms are shown in longitudinal section, each in varying stages of dissection: 1 showing normal organ positioning; 1 with pyloric caeca and gonads removed to show ampullae, Polian vesicles, and the ring canal; and 1 completely dissected to reveal the nervous system (nerve ring and radial nerve). The stomachs, stone canal, axial organ, and the madreporite are also depicted in detail. Examine an alternate view of the internal anatomy by examining a cross section of a fourth arm. Tube feet, optic organs, and pedicellariae are easy to identify on the starfish’s external surface of a fifth, intact arm. Use this model to enrich your invertebrate lecture and lab dissection. Significant structures are numbered and a key is included. This model is on a stand with green base but can be removed for more thorough study. Size, 53 x 35 x 31 cm.
