Carolina Investigations® for Use with AP® Biology: Electrophoresis and Simulated Genetic Screen 1-Station Kit

Product Code: 747771

Description

Students conduct a simulated genetic screen using gel electrophoresis, which builds toward further understanding of heritability and the use of biotechnology. In this Guided Inquiry investigation, students assume the role of a lab technician tasked with performing a genetic screen to assess for the cystic fibrosis allele. Students learn how to pour and run an agarose gel, interpret a DNA fingerprint, and explore the techniques of PCR and restriction digests. Kit includes enough materials for 1 group.
