Teach magnetism and Newton’s laws of motion with this fun experiment that uses neodymium magnets, a low-friction linear rail, and steel balls. The steel balls are aligned and accelerated at 3–4 times their original speed due to the magnetic force from the strong neodymium magnets. Energy is transferred through the steel balls in a successive chain repeating 4 times, like Newton’s cradle, using multiple neodymium magnet stops. The result is a high-velocity ball with sufficient energy to shoot across the room!
