Carolina® Mapping Electric Fields Kit

Product Code: 756010

Description

Grades 9–12. Help students master the concept of electric fields and their relationship with electrostatic forces and potential energy. By mapping the electric fields with equipotential lines, students visualize the field lines and explore how electrostatic forces operate as non-contact or action-at-a-distance forces. Students map electric field lines, drawing equipotential surfaces for an electric dipole and 2 parallel plates, to understand and conceptualize how electric fields are used in calculating electrostatic force and electric potential (for a point charge in an electric field). In addition, students distinguish the use of electric fields in performing calculations from mathematical models such as Coulomb’s Law. This kit provides materials for 15 student groups or 30 students and includes free 1-year access to digital resources that support 3-dimensional instruction. The kit builds towards the Next Generation Science Standards*, augmenting 3-dimensional teaching and learning in the classroom, and toward the following NGSS Performance Expectations: HS-PS4-5, HS-PS3-2. The kit is designed to integrate into a larger unit of lessons addressing wave mechanics, electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetism.
