Carolina® Coulomb’s Law Kit

Product Code: 756020

Description

Grades 9–12. Through 2 investigations, students construct 2 electroscopes establishing the relationship between charge and distance while studying the underlying principles of Coulomb’s law and electrostatics.

Time Requirement: 100 minutes

Introduce electrostatic force using charged materials such as fur, silk, and glass. Students measure attractive force as a function of distance with the more sensitive electroscopes. Then they model the mathematical relationship, confirming the 1/r2 relationship between electrostatic force and distance by measuring angular deflection.

Kit contains enough materials for 10 groups of students and includes FREE 1-year access to digital resources that support 3-dimensional instruction for NGSS.

Kit activities build toward the following Performance Expectations of the Next Generation Science Standards*: HS-PS2-4 and HS-PS3-2. This kit is designed to integrate into a larger unit of lessons addressing wave mechanics, electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetism.
